Udara

Category:

“The belly is the greatest of all gods.” Euripides

The Sanskrit word Udara means abdomen but also generosity and freedom. Today, researchers have discovered the presence of neurons in our gut, indirectly linked with the gut microbiota. About 500 million neurons in our abdomen constitute a nervous system and constantly exchange a lot of information with our brain. This is why the abdomen is currently referred to as the ‘second brain’.

“A pit in my stomach”. Everyone knows this expression used either:

  • After a heavy meal where digestion is difficult, and it seems as if the food and drinks are stuck in the stomach instead of going their own way.
  • To talk about an event, a disappointment, the bad news that we can’t “digest” energetically, a painful feeling.

“Beware of the man whose belly does not move when he laughs.” Cantonese proverb

The health of the stomach and intestines has an important impact on physical, psychological, and mental health. For this reason, traditional Asian systems of medicine such as the traditional Chinese medicine or Ayurveda have always given primary attention to this physiological part. The belly is the center of our emotions.

In Ayurveda many pathologies and disorders related to the abdomen are called Udara Roga. These include loss of appetite, distension of the abdomen, bloating, alteration of Agni (digestive fire), metabolic syndrome, enlargement of the liver, constipation, intestinal obstruction, etc.

In addition to a diet adapted to the doshas, Ayurveda recommends daily belly massage and specific purges (Virechana). Daily belly massage contributes to relaxation and prevents constipation.

Udara treatments in Ayurvedic institutes can help improve movement between the internal organs and communication with the vital tissues (Dhatus). They relieve stress and tension in the body and can decrease the extension of the abdomen. They help to recreate coherence between body and mind. Traditionally, Udara treatment is given after childbirth to tighten the abdominal muscles, regain pre-pregnancy tone and help the uterus to regain its place.

UDARA by TURIYA is a synergy of essential oils indicated for UDARA treatments and for self-massage of the abdomen. It contributes to soften the abdomen, to relieve tensions and stress, to restore a better circulation of Prana, of Qi in this physiological zone. Spicy, peppery, warm, it relaxes, harmonizes, balances the emotions, and creates the necessary space to let go of tensions and blockages.

If you dream of a flatter stomach, a more toned and firmer abdomen, a more comfortable and efficient digestion, a better back posture, a more flexible lower back, then UDARA is the synergy that can help you.

Udara essential oils

“Sometimes we are powerless, because some things are out of our control. This pushes us to learn to let go, to not want to control everything, to grow in trust, in detachment, in humility, in serenity, in love.” Frédéric Lenoir

  • Star anise, tropical basil, tarragon, sweet fennel: act on Manipura, the 3rd chakra, and help to get rid of what has not been digested as well on the physical as on the energetic level. The warm aniseed notes are deeply relaxing and dissolve tension. They are among the most suitable essences for reducing Vata (the air constitution in Ayurveda).
  • Gurjum, mandarin, sweet orange: facilitate letting go and awaken Svadhistana (the 2nd chakra), the center of joy, creativity, and pleasure. The sparkling notes of citrus and the sensual, musky touch of gurjum facilitate awareness of our physical needs.
  • Roman chamomile, geranium, lemon, grapefruit: protect against aggressiveness, frustration, resentment, negative energies, support mental clarity, concentration and attract positive energies. They soothe stomach problems caused by stress and tension.
  • Cumin caraway, palo santo, Amazonian incense, Ethiopian incense, lavender: create a protective energetic shield and purify the aura of harmful residues that prevent spiritual evolution and letting go. They activate the 3rd eye and the crown chakra and allow the relaxation and drainage of energetic and physical toxins.
  • Angelica root, cumin, ginger, Chinese cinnamon, turmeric, black pepper: these are among the digestive herbs, both on a nutritional level and on a more subtle and spiritual level. They strengthen the Muladhara, the root chakra, nourish confidence and certainty, stabilize the body and soul, and strengthen the functions of the pancreas and liver.
  • Marjoram, Scots Pine, Peppermint, Spearmint: Balance extreme emotions. Sharpen clarity of mind, anchors in the present time and support mental and psychic balance.
  • Cardamom, Coriander, Curry leaves: transform stagnant and blocked energies, dissolve the crystallization of limiting patterns and beliefs. They activate energy of light and of Prana in the whole organism while balancing excessive emotions.

You practice the Udara treatment or any abdomen treatment in your salon / spa:

  • Put a few drops of the synergy on the pillow before the treatment.
  • Let your client inhale the bottle for two minutes with eyes closed.
  • Put 3 drops of the synergy into the navel before the treatment and make 9 circles with the middle finger.
  • Apply a drop of Udara with your middle finger to the groin area (Vitapa marma point) on each side and make 11 circles in a clockwise direction.

You want to tone and firm your abdomen, you dream of a flatter belly, you want to release certain experiences that have been “stuck” in your stomach. Do the belly massage every night for 40 days. Start on a full moon day. Stop after this period and start a new series (if necessary) of 40 days at the next full moon:

Belly or abdominal massage is a gentle massaging motion to relax and bring movement to the abdominal area. If you are constipated or have other digestive problems or abdominal discomfort, belly massage can help.

Do not have a tummy massage if you are pregnant or if you have inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel, spastic bowel, a recent injury to the tummy, or a spinal injury.

Do this massage at the time when you usually have a bowel movement. It may be more effective in the morning than later in the day. You can drink a cup of warm water with 1 tbsp of ginger hydrosol to help with bowel movements.

Used once or twice a day, this technique can help you maintain regular bowel movements. The massage takes 10 to 15 minutes.

For abdominal self-massage, mix 5 ml of Udara Synergy with 45 ml of vegetable oil (e.g. apricot kernel, argan, macadamia…):

  • Apply the massage oil to the stomach and lower back and massage it.
  • Smell the bottle for two minutes with your eyes closed, imagining a golden sphere in your stomach.
  • Lie on your back, bend your knees, place your feet in a comfortable position. If you prefer to spread your legs, place a pillow behind your knees to ensure that your lower back touches the floor. There should be no space between your back and the surface you are laying on. Start by relaxing your body.
  • Pour 3 drops of the synergy into your navel (marma Nabi point) and place your middle finger on the navel. Make 7 mini circles with your finger in a clockwise direction and 2 circles in an anticlockwise direction.
  • Place both hands on the right side of your lower stomach. Press gently with your palms while exhaling and moving up towards your ribs. Then slide to the left and return to the starting point. Repeat this movement 11 times to warm up your abdominal muscles and prepare for a deeper massage.
  • Now place your palms near your lower back and apply pressure by moving your hands forward, over your hips and down to your pelvis. Repeat 11 times to stimulate the nerves that control your bowel function.
  • Apply a drop of Udara with your middle finger to the groin area (Vitapa marma point) on each side and make 11 circles in a clockwise direction.
  • Then place one hand on the right side of your lower abdomen. Apply firm, deep pressure to form a circle. Move up and across your body, just below your ribs, then back down and across your lower abdomen. Repeat this circle 11 times to promote bowel movement.
  • You can repeat this same movement clockwise with a kneading technique. Each time you apply pressure, make a small circular movement before moving to the next massage point.
  • Finally, place both hands firmly on your belly and move them up and down and back and forth to create vibrations that promote bowel movement.

You can’t stay focused, your concentration is poor, you want to strengthen your memory.

  • Apply a drop of UDARA to the root of the thumb.
  • Close your eyes.
  • Apply strong acupressure with the opposite thumb for two minutes.
  • Repeat on the other side.

You can’t digest a heavy meal:

  • Rub the solar plexus with a few drops of Udara.
  • Pour a drop of Udara on the inside and middle of the forearm (Indravasti marma point).
  • Apply strong pressure with your thumb for two minutes.
  • Repeat on the second side.

You do a detox, you go on a diet to lower your cholesterol, to boost your metabolism.

  • Rub the middle of the back of your knee daily with a few drops of UDARA.

Stress and tension prevent proper digestion:

  • Smell the bottle of Udara for two minutes with your eyes closed before meals.
  • Drink a cup of hot water with 1 tsp of ginger or cinnamon hydrosol before your meal.
  • Rub the solar plexus with a few drops of Udara after meals.
