Bhrajaka

“The skin is the mirror of the inner fire. If the soul is at peace, it becomes light.” Ayurvedic wisdom

Category:

The term Bhrajaka comes from the Sanskrit “bhraj” which can be translated as

  • shine, illuminate, radiate..

Ayurvedic wisdom identifies five distinct expressions—sub-doshas—of the Pitta bioenergy, each governed by the fire element. Among them, Bhrajaka Pitta is revered as “the fire that radiates” or “the light of the skin”. It is considered the mirror of our inner fire. Primarily located in the skin, Bhrajaka Pitta plays a vital role in transformation, perception, and protection.

When Bhrajaka Pitta is in balance, the skin appears healthy, luminous, and resilient, capable of defending itself against pollution and external aggressors, while efficiently metabolizing the care it receives.

Bhrajaka Pitta is responsible for assimilating substances applied to the skin, such as oils, cosmetics, and sunlight. It regulates body temperature in concert with perspiration, and it governs the complexion, clarity, and overall quality of the skin. When imbalanced, this sub-dosha may manifest skin inflammation, redness, eczema, acne, or hypersensitivity—whether to allergens or to sunlight itself.

This sub-dosha is intimately connected to the third and fourth chakra: Manipura, the energetic seat of fire, and Anahata, the heart chakra, which is also linked to the health of the skin. Bhrajaka Pitta functions as a kind of energetic shield—protecting the body from invasive energies such as environmental toxins and emotional overload, while also facilitating the subtle transmutation of solar and elemental energies received through the skin. It supports the flow of prana through the skin, which is not only the body’s largest organ, but also its most subtle and sensitive.

The skin, as our emotional boundary, serves as the interface between our inner and outer worlds. Bhrajaka Pitta profoundly influences how at ease we feel in our own bodies and in relationships with others. In balance, it supports comfort with physical contact, emotional openness, and the ability to establish healthy personal boundaries. When disturbed, it may lead to emotional reactivity, irritability, and a pronounced need for space, protection, and independence.

Bhrajaka Pitta can also be understood as a form of spiritual radiance made visible through the physical body. It allows the inner light to shine outward, through the skin. This subtle expression is linked to the clarity of the aura and the integration of divine light throughout the entire being. When Bhrajaka Pitta is balanced, it fosters a luminous presence, enabling one to engage fully with the world without losing oneself—radiating love, presence, and awareness through the simple act of being.

BHRAJAKA Sun Ritual – Preparing skin and soul for the light. Before offering yourself to the sun’s caress, it’s essential to prepare your skin and your inner energy gently and consciously. The following measures increase skin tolerance to the sun:

Gentle peeling with bicarbonate of soda

This natural gesture purifies the skin by eliminating dead cells, revealing a smoother, more luminous texture, ready to receive the light. This deep purifying exfoliation helps prevent imperfections. It balances the pH with an alkaline action, neutralizing the skin’s acidity. It promotes a sensation of freshness. It also activates microcirculation, improving skin oxygenation and preparing the skin to better absorb the active ingredients that protect and strengthen the immune system. The peel should be carried out once or twice a week, ideally starting 4 weeks before major exposure to the sun.

  • Mix 5 tablespoons of baking soda with 5 tablespoons of apricot kernel oil and 10 drops of BHRAJAKA in a bowl.
  • First, spray the entire skin with rose, lavender or ylang ylang hydrosol.
  • Apply the peel to damp skin using gentle circular movements, including the face.
  • Then take a shower or bath.

Daily self-massage (Abhyanga). This daily ritual nourishes, protects and detoxifies the skin. It also boosts the skin’s immunity and tolerance to external aggressors.

  • Blend a massage oil with Bhrajaka. You can create a cocktail of different CO and add 100 drops per 100 ml of carrier oil.
  • Massage the entire body daily in the morning before showering.
  • This is a daily detox for skin, body and mind and will strengthen the immunity of skin

Absorbing lunar energy. The moon has a beneficial and pacifying effect on the skin.

  • Expose your body (as far as possible to the moon)
  • Take moonlight walks
  • Sit in the middle of the night when the moon is shining. Smell the bottle of BHRAJAKA with your consciousness at heart level and visualize a white light enveloping you.

You want to soothe your hyper-reactivity, both on the skin and emotionally. The breathing exercise, pranayama Chandra Bhedana, has a very calming effect.

Chandra Bhedana means ‘breathing by the way of the Moon’. Chandra is the Sanskrit word for the Moon, while Bhedana can be translated as pierce or penetrate. The aim of this pranayama is to activate the lunar energy, associated with calm, freshness, relaxation and introspection, by stimulating the Nadi Ida, the energy channel located on the left side of the body.

It reduces stress, anxiety and irritability, promotes deep relaxation and improves sleep quality. It refreshes the skin and the body in general, while contributing to emotional balance. This ritual is particularly recommended during periods of intense heat, and to soothe hot flushes.  It is also ideal for initiating meditation at the time of the full moon.

  • At bedtime: adopt a comfortable sitting position (it’s best to have finished your last meal at least two hours ago).
  • Smell the bottle of BHRAJAKA for two minutes, with your eyes closed, raising your consciousness to the level of your heart and imagining yourself enveloped in a shimmering white light.
  • Inhale slowly through your left nostril, then exhale through your right nostril.
  • Practice for five minutes at first, then gradually extend to ten minutes as you feel comfortable.
  • Keep your bottle of BHRAJAKA close at hand: inhale it, with your eyes closed and your consciousness centered in your heart, whenever you feel irritation, agitation or an excessive sensation of heat.

Soothing & Skin Regeneration, caring for skin, heart and soul

The skin is often the mirror of inner tensions, unexpressed emotions and deep sensitivity. This ritual honors these messages from the body through a physical treatment and an inner journey of reconnection. Combining a skin treatment with an inner intention can contribute to healing. Perform the following ritual every evening before bedtime for 11 consecutive days.

Create the following serum in a dropper bottle:

EO BHRAJAKA                             1.00 ml / 20 drops

CO Neem                                   5.00 ml

CO Calophyllum inophyllum        3.00 ml

CO Rosehip   s.q.f.                    30.00 ml

  • Settle down in a quiet place that’s conducive to introspection.
  • Sit comfortably
  • Smell the bottle of BHRAJAKA with your eyes closed, with your awareness focused on the affected area (eczema, itching, redness, etc.) and imagine a white light penetrating the area.
  • Then place one hand on the area.
  • Ask yourself a few questions in silence:

“What is my skin trying to tell me?

“Is there a repressed emotion that I haven’t expressed (anger, sadness, fear, etc.)?

“Are there situations where I feel trapped?

“Do I feel a lack of freedom?

  • Accept what comes – a word, an image, a feeling
  • Pour a few drops of the serum into your hand and apply to the skin using gentle, slow, enveloping movements as if you were applying a love balm.
  • Keep your bottle of BHRAJAKA close at hand: sniff it with your eyes closed and your consciousness centered in your heart before meals or if you feel trapped or disrespected.
